Game Report Posted: November 10, 2009 21:22

Game Notes

  • Senior backup quarterback Dylan Meier left the game in the third quarter and did not return. X-rays showed a broken collar bone and he is expected to miss the remainder of the season.

  • Freshman third-string quarterback Carson Coffman left the game late in the third quarter with a concussion and did not return.

  • The loss of Meier and Coffman left the Wildcats without a quarterback to play with freshman starter Josh Freeman already out with a broken finger. Senior receiver and emergency QB Jordy Nelson was also out with a dislocated elbow. That left the 'Cats scrambling to find someone to run the offense. Sophomore receiver Cedric Wilson volunteered to run the option, which KSU had not really practiced all season. Wilson took over early in the fourth quarter with KSU down by one and led the 'Cats on a 16-play drive that took up almost the entire quarter. Wilson did not throw one pass, running a couple of options but mostly handing off to one of the running backs. • Senior tailback Thomas Clayton ran for 119 yards on 25 carries, his sixth 100-yard game of the season. That ties him for fourth most 100-yard games in a season in K-State history (J.J. Smith,1994 and Issac Jackson, 1972).

  • Clayton now has 1,200 yards rushing on the season ranking fifth most in school history. He needs only 64 yards to pass Josh Scobey (2001) for fourth on the list. The school record is 1,986 by Darren Sproles in 2003.

  • Senior receiver Jermaine Moreira caught three passes for 114 yards recording only the second 100-yard receiving game of the season for Kansas State (Yamon Figurs had 115 last week @ Missouri).

  • Senior tailback Thomas Clayton rushed for 69 yards on 15 carries. The 69 yards was one yard shor of his season-low (week seven vs. Nebraska). Clayton has also been held under five yards-per-carry in the past four games after having averaged over five yards-per-carry in hthe team's first six games.

  • Junior linebacker Justin Roland had a personal season-high five tackles as the Wildcats used the 4-4 defense extensively to try and slow down the Colorado rushing attack.

  • Senior middle linebacker and team captain Zach Diles had his best game of the season with nine tackles, including two for a loss.

  • Senior placekicker Jeff Snodgrass did not attempt an extra point or field goal for the first time all season. K-State went for two (unsuccessful) after scoring their only twouchdown (23-yard run by Thomas Clayton).

November 11, 2006

Game Report Posted: November 13, 2009 00:16

Game Notes

  • Junior cornerback Byron Garvin left the game in the third quarter and did not return. X-rays revealed a forearm fracture and he will be out for the remainder of the season. Garvin's injury is the third season season-ending injury for the Wildcats this season (Dylan Meier, broken collarbone and Jordy Nelson, dislocated elbow).

  • The Wildcats allowed a season-high 235 yards rushing to the Longhorns, the second-straight game in which an opponent has gone over 200 yards against K-State(Colorado rushed for 216 last week).

  • Kansas State allowed 378 yards of total offense to Texas, the fourth time in the past five games K-State's opponent has gone over 340 yards of offfense.

  • The Wildcats turned the ball over a season-high six times against Texas (three fumbles, three interceptions), five of which were in the first half.

  • Senior tailback Thomas Clayton continues to struggle with fumbles as he lost the ball three times against the Longhorns, two of which were recovered by Texas. Clayton now has seven fumbles on the season.

  • Clayton did manage to go over 100 yards (123 on 21 carries) for only the second time in the past five games. He started the season with five 100-yard games in the first six games of the season. The seven 100-yard rushing games in a season ties Clayton for third-most in school history (Josh Scobey, 2001). The record is 10 by Darren Sproles in 2002.

  • Clayton currently has 1,392 rushing yards on the season, three behind Big 12 leader Adrian Peterson of Oklahoma. Arkansas' Darren McFadden leads the nation with 1,765 yards. The Kansas State record for rushing yards in a season is 1,986 by Darren Sproles in 2003.

  • Freshman quarterback Josh Freeman returned to the field against Texas after missing two-and-a-half games with a broken finger. Freeman completed 16-of-33 pass attempts for 219 yards with two touchdowns and three interceptions.

  • Senior receivers Yamon Figurs (8) and Jermaine Moreira (117) set Wildcat season-highs in receptions and receiving yardage, respectively, against the Longhorns.

  • Junior defensive end Rob Jackson continues to impress NFL scouts and improve his potential draft position should he decide to leave school early. Jackson had five tackles and three tackles-for-loss against the Longhorns. Jackson's 15 tackles-for-loss tie him for seventh in the Big 12 and his seven sacks are tied for third. Jackson also has three interceptions and projects as a 3-4 outside linebacker in the NFL.

  • The nation's top wide receiver prospect, Maurice Carrington, was at the game on his official visit to Manhattan. Carrington said after the game he liked the fight the Wildcats gave and thinks he can make a difference for them and gave his verbal committment to the team. High school recruits cannot officially sign a letter-of-intent until the February 1 signing day.

  • Kansas State has not lost four of their past five games and is in danger of missing out on a bowl invitation for the third straight year. A win at rival Kanas (8-2) next week would almost assuredly garner a bowl invite.
