Second Half Surge: Spartans Beat UAB 44-6
What started out as a slow, tight game to open the season turned into a large rout, thanks to a 34-0 score in the second half of the game between the UAB Blazers (0-0) and Michigan State Spartans (0-0).
QB Brian Hoyer threw three second half touchdowns in a brilliant showing. He finished 19 of 23, for 302 yards and three touchdowns, while not throwing an interception.
"What a huge game by Brian. We needed him to show he has the confidence to lead this team after Stanton left a huge mark on the program. He showed us today that he has the ability to be an elite NCAA quarterback." stated Doctor P.
Hoyer's favorite target was TE Kellen Davis, who caught 7 passes for 115 yards and two scores. WR Devin Thomas had the third score, while adding 58 yards recieving on the day.
Impact HB Javon Ringer got off to a slow start, but a 27 yard run near the end of the game helped him gain 93 yards rushing on 20 carries with a score.
Defensively, the Spartans refused to let UAB into the endzone. They had a goaline stop that resulted in UAB's second field goal, and after that point didn't let the Blazers back into the redzone.
Not one player really shined in the game, as it was a collective team effort FS Otis Wiley led the team with 10 tackles, while Impact SS Nehemiah Warrick recorded an interception.
