Spartans Pound Intra-State Eagles

The Michigan State Spartans were able to easily dispose of the Eastern Michigan Eagles 34-6 in a rainy game at Spartan Stadium today.

Former WR turned CB David Williams had two interceptions, in a game in which the Spartans picked off QB Tyler Jones four times and held the Eagles to zero touchdowns.

HB Javon Ringer lead the way, with 130 yards and two scores on 29 carries. Backup HB A.J. Jimmerson contributed a third touchdown and 69 yards on just 11 carries.

The game was all about ball control and defense, as the Spartans held on to the football for 18 minutes and 13 seconds, while the Eagles had it for just half that, at 9 minutes and 51 seconds.

"If anyone doesn't know it by now, this is the team we've strived to be this season. We don't want to turn the ball over, and we want to control the clock. When we started throwing the ball 30 times a game last year we'd lose to the better teams. We'll get to see how we do next week against Notre Dame, as they put a 40 spot up on our defense last year. I'm looking to cut that in half and win by ten," stated Dr. P.

In a very alarming stat, QB Brian Hoyer dropped back to pass just 26 times, and eight of those plays he was sacked. Eastern Michigan's heavy blitzes put pressure on Hoyer all game, but he did manage to go 13 of 18 for 124 yards and a touchdown.
