From Roses to Tostitos?
2010 may be the first chance for the Northwestern Wildcats to be in a Bowl Championship Bowl Game, and it may not even be the traditional Big Ten game, the Rose Bowl.
After their latest victory over the Georgia Tech Yellowjackets, a non-conference opponent, allowing the Wisconsin Badgers to move into a tie for first in the Big Ten, with both the Badgers and Wildcats at a 6-1 conference record. Wisconsin has a better overall record, giving them the Rose Bowl bid.
The Wildcats played an unspectacular game statistics-wise, but holding the Yellowjackets to 3 scores on 7 Red Zone Opportunities, in addition to 3 Turnovers, led to the Wildcats taking a commanding lead going into the 4th quarter.
Jamaal Richardson played a flawless game, having a 177.5 Quarterback rating with 1 Touchdown to 0 Interceptions. Stephen Simmons had 78 yards on only 14 carries, while Erik Humphrey had 4 yards on 4 carries, landing himself a seat on the bench for most of the game.
On the other side of the ball, Fred Russell had 2 interceptions and Jordan Mabin had 1, leading the momentum-shifts when the Yellowjackets were in the red zone. Jack DiNardo recorded the only sack for the Wildcats.
