With a strong 3rd Quarter USU pulls away from Fresno State
Fresno State struck first when T. Brandstater connected with J. Tapia for a 38 yard slant across the middle that went for a touchdown. However, J. McCormick rallied the troops and had an impressive drive that ended with a 16 yard touchdown pass to K. Robinson.
The second quarter was an offensive explosion that had a combined 31 points scored between the two teams including a ridiculous 40 yard fake punt scramble by C. Smith that broke a tackle and just made the rest of the USU special teams players look silly!!
After an outstanding halftime speech by coach McGriffle the USU defense came out and only let up 8 points the rest of the game. There were quite a few impressive defensive stands by USU and an interception for J. Hutton that was returned for a touchdown.
But regardless of an outstanding performance in the second half by Aggies defense, nothing should over take the amazing performance by senior running back C. Forbes. He had a hard fought 186 yards rushing including 5 touchdowns to take the player of the game award.
After the game Coach McGriffle had this to say "We played a heck of a game. This is how I expected us to be playing all year. It all started with a good week of practice. We worked hard and didn't just go through the motions. We need to build on this. We have a tough home game coming up versus Boise State. They are a Top 25 team and will be a handful for us. We need another good week of practice."
