AutoZone Liberty Bowl goes to the Aggies of Utah State

UTEP jumped out to a very early 7-0 lead after scoring in the first 15 seconds of the game. But a resiliant Aggies team answered back with 14 unanswered points. UTEP scored on the next possession to tie the game 14-14 after the first quarter.

The second quarter proved to be dominated by the Aggies. They scored 10 points on two impressive drives and held the Miners of UTEP to zero second quarter points. USU went into halftime leading 24-14.

The third period started of with the Aggies kicking a 33 yard field goal to take a commanding 27-14 lead. UTEP tried to make a small comeback as they scored on an 81 yard strike from Thomas to West. But it was all Aggies from that point on with another touchdown and an added field goal to make the final score 36-23.

After the game Coach McGriffLe had this to say, "What a win. Our first bowl win ever. This was a big step for our program. This program is one of the most up and coming programs in the nation. All you high school players take a look. We are graduating a ton of seniors and there will be some playing time to be handed out next year. I am not afraid to play freshman."
