Dominant D creates upset for Utah State
Boise State came walking into Logan with nothing but an easy win in the conference on their mind. Averaging a mere 407 yards a game and putting up just over 36 points a game. However a determined defense by USU held them to a lowly number of 168 yards of offense and a weak 14 points.
Boise State started off the game with a quick 3 and out as did USU on their first drive. After another 3 and out by the Bronco's, USU drove down the field and kicked a 47 yard field goal to take a 3-0 lead.
The second quarter proved to also be dominated be the Aggies. The defense once again held the Bronco's to ZERO points while the offense mustard up a very impressive touchdown drive and adding a 36 yard field.
The Bronco's came out flat in the third quarter as they allowed the Aggies to score on a 69 yard bomb from McCormick to P. Robinson making the game 20-0 USU. Despite the Pontiac Game Changing Performance, the Bronco's came back with a solid drive ending with an Ian Johnson 2 yard touchdown run.
Going into the fourth quarter Boise State trialed the Aggies of USU 27-7. But early into the fourth quarter Ian Johnson had his second touchdown run to make the game 27-14. USU was able to hold of the comeback from the Bronco's by adding another field goal to make the final score 30-14.
After the game Coach McGriffle had this to say "We came to play today. Our defense was amazing. Holding that offense to only 14 points. I think they are averaging around 35+ a game. Our offense controlled the ball and keep the defense well rested. I am happy with us today. We need to come to play next week.
