Coach Perry Brings In More Big Recruits, With Big Wins Against Big Rivals

Weekly Report Posted: September 18, 2009 00:44

Coach Perry has recruits committing all over here lately, and most of them for a common reason: The 3rd Saturday In October. Alabama's big win against rival Tennessee has caught the eye of recruits across the nation. Alabama got to more solid commitments this weekend from 2 more defensive standouts.

If there is 2 things Alabama has, it's great linebackers and great players from the state of Georgia. 4 star linebacker Chris Miller fits the bill in both of those categories. This Redan native has height(6'2) but not really the size(218 lbs) for the inside linebacker position. When we spoke with Coach Perry he said that with what the Crimson Tide already have, Miller will likely redshirt to either gain some size or to learn the outside linebacker spot.

Deleware City, DE had never really been a warehouse for Alabama recruits but Coach Perry took a chance going after 5 star defensive tackle Heath Lawson and collected big time. Lawson is a 6'4 294lbs workhorse that could make the Tide's defense next year think they never lost Terrence Cody. He's a beast at the noseguard position and absorbs double team and sometimes triple team blocks.

Miller and Lawson both pretty much knew they would be coming to Tuscaloosa but they both admitted that they wanted to keep their options open. Both committed to Alabama early this week after going on there respective visits.

Tide Rolls Over LSU Defense, Wins 56-12

Alabama-LSU has been a rivalry that has always favored the team on the road but this year was an exception. LSU's rushing attack was stagnant if anything, and the defense couldn't slow down the Tide at all on the ground or even in the air.

Except for a couple of INT's, McElroy had a great day with the passing attack completing 68% of his passes and getting 3 TD's. The rushing attack dominated LSU. Ingram and Upchurch combined for 260 yards and 4 TD. Receiver Maze even got in on the fun by taking a direct snap out of the Wildcat 19 yards for his first rushing TD of the year.

The Tide's #1 defense against the run had another great day. The entire defense combined for 15 tackles behind the line of scrimmage including 4 sacks. The secondary was pretty stagnant against the pass allowing 210 yards through the air but they did get a turnover when Woodall picked off LSU's Jefferson on a deep pass.

Next week Alabama goes to Starkeville to face Miss State. Many fear that the Tide may be looking ahead at USC. We can only hope they're not and just taking these games one at a time.
