Bama Commitments Love Big Rivalries

Weekly Report Posted: September 20, 2009 17:02

Alabama has picked up 3 more commitmentsthis season after their dominating win against LSU last week. Brian Jones and Morris Bolen were in T-town at the game when the Tide picked up their big win. Jon Garcia visited a few weeks back and after looking around at other schools decided Alabama fit him best. All 3 commitments come from 3 of the top recruiting states in the southeast.

4 star recruit Brian Jones is very tough and strong outside linebacker out of Frostproof, FL. He will be added to the stable of a linebacker corps that is already very talented.

Morris Bolen is a 4 star cornerback from Adamsville, AL. This instate recruit brings a little height(6'2) to a group of corners that average around 5'11.

Jon Garcia is more than likely going to see some playing time next year with him being the only center that's not a senior. This 4 star recruit from Hernando, MS is tall, strong, and very good at pass protecting.

Jones Scores Winning TD In Record Breaking Day, Tide Outlasts Bulldogs 50-47

In the first quarter, Alabama hung their heads in embarrassment. Before they knew it, Miss State was up 21-0 with no signs of slowing down. Then Julio Jones started an amazing comeback with a spectacular 19 yard reception that put the Tide on the board. Bama Eventually fought back and were up 43-40 in the 4th after a bootleg pass to Colin Peek that gave Alabama just their 2nd lead in the game. But the Bulldogs fought back as well and seemed to have the game locked with just over a minute let in the game and the Tide having no timeouts. After a few short first down passes McElroy launched one downfield to Julio Jones for a 59 yard reception and Julio would have scored if he had not stepped out of bounds trying to avoid a tackle. With 18 seconds left in the game McElroy tossed a TD pass to Julio who was running a fade route to win the game.

Despite some unneccessary turnovers, the offense was great in every aspect except breaking the running game in. A lot of that had to do with Alabama needing to throw. Ingram did manage to gain over 100 yards but he was the only life in the rushing attack. Julio broke the NCAA record for receiving yards with 491.

The defense played well against the run again but the passing defense was horrible. Allowing 468 passing yards is not good when you may be playing Florida in the SEC Championship just a few weeks away.
