Papa Perry's Alabama Crimson Tide

2009 Week 8

On The Schedule: Tennessee W 51-0

Tide Gets First Two BIG Commitments

Weekly Report Posted: September 12, 2009 22:42

Alabama's first commitents of the season bolster their already monstrous offensive line.

Bryson Slaughter, from Candler-McAfee, GA, is a strong quick player that Coach Perry thinks will be able to compete right away. There had even been talk about him playing some at center once he got enrolled.

What do you do when you lose an Andre Smith? You go get another one. Coming from the West Coast in Newport Hills, WA, is Andy Harris. Harris is 6'4 344 lbs. and he's quick and mean. People talk about bookends on the defensive line, can you imagine what it's gonna look like with Fluker at one tackle spot and Harris on the other?

Both Slaughter and Harris were at last week's South Carolina game and both agreed how impressive it was for Alabama to react to adversity with the big comeback they made. The news broke the night before the Tennessee game when they both announced to the press they are going to be clad in Crimson next season.

Tide Shows No Mercy, Beats Tennessee 51-0

Alabama welcomed the Volunteers in to town this weekend to continue this border rivalry full of hatred. The Tide sent them home with their tail between their legs in Alabama's first shutout victory of the season.

The defense had an outstanding day with the secondary and the front seven. The secondary compiled for 4 INT's and only allowed Tennessee to complete 30% of their passes. The front seven combined for 15 tackles behind the line of scrimmage including 6 sacks.

The offense had a good day on the ground and in the air. Upchurch carried the bulk on the ground today with 101 rushing yards and 2 TD's. Heisman candidate Julio Jones had a good day catching the ball for 100+ yards and 2 TD's.

Alabama will be off next week as they prepare for another rival coming to town, LSU. The Tiger's have been sliding this year but that doesn't mean Coach Perry and the Crimson Tide will be underestimating them. This will be Alabama's last home game of the year before they go on a 3 week road trip against Miss State, USC, and Auburn.
