David vs. Goliath

Well, Max McGraw figured it would be cute to cheat on a test. It wasn't. The Athletic Department suggested I set him out for 3 games. That's way too long. I changed it to one(even then the NCAA meter was really high). Zach Stanford will start in his place(great). I really felt we could pull the upset even with GT pulling the one point upset on Notre Dame. Now, I'm just hoping we keep it close.
We kickoff to the Bumble Bees. They proceed to march down the field like we aren't even there. This is gonna be a long day...Prodigiously we were able to hold them to a 39 yard field goal. We take over and slowly begin moving the ball. Stanford actually completes some passes. Covington ran better this week(nothing to brag about though). After crawling along we are finally able to hook up with reserve TE Vincent J. Vaiano for a 55 yard TD pass. His only catch of the game sure was a good one. I then realize we are actually ahead. WOW!
The quarter ends with us still ahead by four. GT continues to run(and pass) all over us. If we don't stop these guys it could end up like a Timberdale score(;)). They burn(guess who?) Phillip #&^%^##^^% Edwards deep for a 47 yard TD. We take back over hoping just to burn out clock while getting yards. We succeed in our mission running almost the entire quarter out on our way to a TD. Stanford was able to connect with Lewis over the middle for another score giving us the lead again. GT continues to kill us managing the clock very successfully. They are within striking distance before Robert Roulhac picks Ball off allowing us to end the half on top.
We got the ball to start the half with our goal being "run out the $%^&^% clock" as a sidelined Max McGraw put it. We continued to burn the clock and move the field. After a very efficient drive we were able to have Chris Covington punch it in from a yard out(the team's first rushing TD of the season). The part that really made me happy as a coach was giving them the ball back with less than two minutes left in the quarter.
A quick three and out by GT got us the ball back(gotta love the big Mo). We, stupidly, did a horrible job of running the clock down. We were able to score much to quickly(Stanford to McCutchen, 30 yards). They got the ball back and smoked us with Calvin "You throw it up and I'll catch it break all tackles and stroll for the TD" Johnson. Ball connected with him for a 67 yarder. The conversion was unsuccessful. As was their onside kick. We burned the clock fairly well. As the Bumble Bee defense had their only third down stop on us for the day(the reason we won imo, 6-7 on third down conversions). They got the ball back and Reggie "throw the damn" Ball went crazy. He completed every pass thrown on this possession(good for them, moving ball; good for us, clock never stopped). After draining the clock down to nothing Ball was able to take it in for the score. Their onside failed yet again when they touched it too soon(a la Oregon). Luckily the refs were from the ACC and made the right call. After that a simple dive did the rest. Even without Max we still pulled out the win. Suck it, Notre Dame.
