Facing the Champs

Well, hide the women and children, we are facing San Jose State. As you know, they are unstoppable. Well, wish us luck.

We started off receiving the ball. We proceeded to drive down the field at will. Until we reached the "Old Spice" Red Zone that is. We have been 100% in red zone efficiency this year. Well, things change. We made it to the 1/3 yard line. It's forth and goal. The crowd screams "Go for it! Go for it!", so I do. And, we don't score. "You suck" the crowd the screams. It's unprintable what I scream back. Anyway, they get the ball on the one yard line. Well, maybe we can get a safety. We stop them for no gain on two consecutive running plays. It's third down, we know we have to get that safety, this is our only shot. The mighty Spartans run a, get this, screen. [laugh] [laugh] A F_ckin' screen on the one yard line. Well Vincent J. Vaiano agrees with me that that was an incredibly stupid play call. He sprints past their linemen and catches the ball as it bounces off Broussard's facemask for a fumble recovery for a TD. He then gets gang tackled in the endzone. We're very happy now. Even though I still would have rather had a safety. State is apparently pissed and tired of playing around with us. Broussard, the kid who couldn't even hold onto the ball last play, takes the kickoff 92 yards for the TD. Fuck me.
Jayson Foster decides he doesn't want to get outdone, so he almost breaks his kickoff return, putting us on our own 46 yard line. We call a pass play but, Max McGraw aka Max McVick pulls the ball down a scampers 54 yards to the endzone breaking one tackle in the process. San Jose, do you know the way, gets the ball back. Broussard again decides to be a meany head, shredding our vaunted(snicker) D for a 58 yard TD run. We get the ball back but, can't do much of anything, and give the ball back to them shortly afterward. We continued to be a featured guest on Broussard's house of pain. This time he catches a 36 yard pass for a TD giving the Spartans a 21-14 lead. We take the ball a hurry down the field. Eventually getting Covington in position for a 15 yard TD run. We're tied 21-21 at the half.
We start the half on defense and go fairly well. Bending but not breaking until we get the ball back. We then carry over some of that momentum from the last drive. We ran the option, giving "McVick" some crazy rushing stats. This drive ended with McGraw throwing an 8 yard pass to Vaiano. We end the quarter ahead by that TD.
San Jose had been moving the ball down the field fairly well as the third quarter was ending. They score early in this quarter on an 18 yard pass by Tafralis to Jones. Wow, Broussard didn't score. Hmm, he must have gotten bored. Anyway tie game, 28-28. We basically take turns handing the driving the ball up and down the field with no points being scored. We Eagles almost scored. It was third and 10 from the 23, we we're going to try a strike to the endzone before settling on the field goal. Well, to make the story short, Max was picked off in the endzone. The Spartans can't capitalize on the shift in momentum for some reason, which is fine by us. We get the ball back and get down the field quickly. We get close to our same spot again, but instead of throwing on third down me have Max run between the hashes setting Bo Galvin up in the middle of the field. Well Bo knows, how to kick. He nails a 37 yard FG giving us the lead. 31-28. We would be ecstatic but, with Broussard on the other team we wait to celebrate. We purposely kick it short so as not to allow Broussard the football. San Jose takes some shots to the endzone, but the game ends with an incompletion near beside Phillip Edwards(we haven't mentioned him all day hmm, no wonder we won) near the endzone. We did it!! We beat the Mighty San Jose State Spartans!!!! I figured we might win(one reason I scheduled them). Great win anyway. Next week we play at UAB. Maybe we can get our first conference win.
