IT WAS A DONE DEAL WHEN
We got our special teams tightened up. We really dominated them for most of the day, but thanks to a couple kick returns for touchdowns, they were able to get the jump on us in the scoring department. Once we settled down, it became clear Dartmouth wasn't going to be able to hang with us unless we kept giving them easy long touchdowns like that.
GAME BALLS
Senior ILB Chris McCargo was a beast, making a handful of plays on Dartmouth's side of the line of scrimmage. ... FS Kevin Coleman forced a fumble and recovered a fumble. ... Junior WR D.J. McPhearson (who was converted to Wr to make room for QB John Powell in the starting lineup) made his return to the QB position. We initially starting QB Collier Winters, but once Dartmouth got out in front of us 13-0, we made the switch. McPhearson was electric as a runner and a passer, though he continued to struggle with turnovers (one fumble lost and one interception). Still, he put the team on his back early on before the running game got going.
KEY STATISTICS
Dartmouth settled for field goals both times they entered our redzone. Those points turned out to be important.
NOTES
Freshman DT Cory James picked up his 1st career sack, playing mostly in a rotation with DT Will Green and Darius Darlington. ... Both of our starting cornerbacks ran back interceptions for touchdowns. ... I'm now 5-0 against Dartmouth. I own them. They live in my back pocket.
