On The Schedule: Yale L 52-38

All Quiet in Week 10

Weekly Report Posted: May 10, 2024 16:23

No news has been reported this week.

IT WAS A DONE DEAL WHEN
After we pulled within 7 points late in the 4th, Yale responded with a 56 yard TD strike from Brandon Owen to Anthony Bomar. If we stopped them, we could've driven for a touchdown and forced overtime (or maybe gone for two, and tried to win it outright). But their passing attack continued to bite us.

GAME BALLS
D.J. McPhearson played WR most of the day, catching 12 passes for 189 yards and a touchdown. This is a glimpse into why I moved him to WR this season.

KEY SATISTICS
Yale was 1 for 6 on third downs, which sounds good until you consider that what that number really means is that they were moving the chains on 1st and 2nd down. ... We had three different guys at QB this game and they combined to throw 8 interceptions. We just couldn't keep up with Yale's passing attack, and we got burned when we tried.

NOTES
We've lost 4 straight to rival Yale. This means I'll be losing a whole chunk of kids from my first recruiting class who will graduate having never beaten Yale once. ... We had two recruits visiting this week. Hope they don't judge us too harshly. ... QB Collier Winters threw for 342 yards despite sharing QB duties with McPhearson and Williams. 342 yards is good for 4th on our list of single-game passing performances. It gives you a glimpse of how prolific our offense could be with a pocket passer at the helm (too bad starting QB John Powell is still nursing his injury). ... D.J. McPhearson caught 12 passes for 189 yards and 1 TD, which is the exact statline posted by Alec Math against Columbia in 2009 when he set the record for most catches/receiving yards in a single game.
