Back to #1 in the nation, the 8-0 (4-0 Big Ten) Crows travel to West Lafayette to take on the 4-3 (1-3) Boilermakers of Purdue. A halfback screen on the first possession went for a 56-yard TD and caused lots of inane cheers of "Boiler Up!" QB Clarence Oveur hooked up with TE Randolph Yapp to tie it up with an 11-yard TD. Oveur then directed a later drive with two fourth down conversions, including a 30-yard TD to WR Donfredale Harper on 4th and 6. Purdue ran a nice WR sweep to tie it at 14 before the end of the first. Punter Jean-Luc Mbuta knocked through a 37-yard field goal in the second to give the Crows the lead, but Purdue returned a fumble 84 yards (nice job, Marvelious Young, in for a momentarily injured Delmar Coffee) in the final minute of the half for a 21-17 locker room advantage. WR Lance Day returned the third quarter kickoff 95 yards for a score and a lead HMU would not relinquish. The Crow D shut out the Boilers and tacked on a couple more scores in a 34-21 win. Now 9-0 (5-0), HMU welcomes an underperforming (4-4, 2-3) Penn State squad to the Crows Nest next week.
