Wildcats Win Close One Behind Kafka

The Wildcats, under Coach Andrew Taylor, have had 2 different occasions where a Quarterback throws for 300 yards. Both CJ Bacher and Andrew Brewer accomplished the feat once, and in only Mike Kafka's 3rd start of his career, he joined the small club.

The Wildcat's needed an impressive performance from Kafka, as for the second straight game, Stephen Simmons suffered an injury that kept him out for at least half the game. Simmons had 11 carries for 46 yards before injuring himself on his first carry in the second half, and preventing himself from finishing the game. Freshman Erik Humphrey stepped in and had 34 yards on 11 carries.

Mike Kafka, who went 20/30 for 317 yards with 1 Touchdown and 1 Interception, carried the Wildcats through the second half, when their rushing game wasn't as strong as it was in the first.

"When Stephen [Simmons] went down, I knew I would have to step it up. Erik [Humphrey] is a fantastic back, but he's still only a freshman. I'm glad we could pull it out, and we have another tough test in 2 weeks against the Illini that we need to prepare for to finish the regular season strong," said Kafka after the game.

Brad Phillips had 2 more Interceptions, putting him within striking distance of the NCAA Record for Interceptions in a Season.
