What's With the Spartans?

For some reason, the Spartans of Michigan St. always give the Northwestern Wildcats a difficult contest. In 2007, the Spartans destroyed the Wildcats 55-16. Last year, the Wildcats played poorly, but due to them having the best team they have had since the Barnett era, they still defeated the Spartans soundly. Now, despite the Wildcats being able to defeat 3 of their 4 extremely difficult out-of-conference opponents, they are unable to defeat the lesser-Spartans of Michigan St.

The Wildcats knew that they would have to continue to establish the running game. Problem is, most of the other teams they are playing are realizing that they have almost no passing game to speak of and are stacking the box. Stephen Simmons had 18 carries for 34 yards and 2 fumbles. Erik Humphrey was effective, with 29 yards on 3 carries, but 2 fumbles, including one on the goalline, forced Taylor to pull him as well.

One good note from the Spartan game is that Andrew Brewer actually played effective. Brewer only threw 1 interception in comparison to 2 touchdown passes, both to Redshirt-Freshman Isaac Floyd.

Brad Phillips also intercepted 2 more passes, increasing his season total to 6, only 2 off of the all-time season mark set last year by Eric Peterman.

Stefan Demos continued showing why he is an All-American, kicking 2 more Field Goals, one from 50 yards.
