New Mexico's 5-6 record was apparently a huge motivator for the visitors. They came on the field and for two quarters played like it was their own home field instead of the Spiders, jumping out to a 28-zip advantage. Richmond had opportunities but miscues cost the Spiders any chance at this one: (1) a fake field goal pass interception; (2) another miscue in the red zone on an intercepted 4 yard pass in the end zone; (3) a dropped ball by Jim Long in the end zone; (4) a slot screen attempt that was tipped and turned into a fumble; (5) senior Joel Robinson hit hard and drops the football. There was probably more but that's all I see in my notes.
