Wyoming survives meltdown

After watching his team throw 13 interceptions in the last two games, Coach T said in his press conference earlier this week that he was thinking about moving some players around. One player he moved was JR Wide Reciever Kyle Jacobo to quarterback.

"Kyle was an excellent high school quarterback and is a very smart player. We thought that with his speed and athleticism, moving him back to quarterback would give opposing defenses just one more threat to try and defend. He can beat teams with his running ability, and he has the talent to get it done in the passing game as well. We like the decision and I think it's gonna pay off for us in the long run."

The move paid off and the offense had its way with the San Diego State defense. The problem, San Diego State tore right through the Wyoming defense as well.

SDSU scored 24 unanswered points in the second half to send the game to overtime at 31-31. In the second overtime, QB Kyle Jacobo scored his 3rd rushing touchdown of the day to give the Cowboys the lead. On the SDSU possession, a 4th down pass attempt was batted to the ground and Wyoming escaped Qualcomm Staduim with a win to put the Cowboys on top in the Mountain West standings.

The moving of Jacobo to QB opened up the running game for the Cowboys. While only gaining 56 yards through the air, Wyoming set a season high in rushing yards with 362. Wynel Seldon rushed for 196 and 2 TD while Jacobo rushed for 129 and 3 TD.

"I like how this move helped our running game. Obviously we still need help in the passing game, but the move helped us control the clock and I think gives us the best chance to compete week in and week out. Kyle did a great job. A lot was asked of him, but he took it in stride and went out there and got the job done today. Also, even though our defense wasn't as good as we're used to, there were some bright spots. When Troy Lewis went down, I think Lamonta Ward did a great job stepping in. He wasn't put in the easiest of situations having to cover their talented and large recievers. He is only 5'9, but he did a great job tonight. Expect to see him get a little more playing time."
