Pokes earn 3rd straight shutout

For the third straight game, the Wyoming Cowboys defense was able to shutout its opponent. This time the victim was rival BYU. The Cowboys defense held the Cougars to 36 total yards of offense and only one first down en route to a 45-0 win.

Coming into the game, the BYU offense was the 4th best passing team in the nation. However, the Pokes defense was up for the challenge allowing only 6 completions and 35 yards through the air.
"Our offense helped us out today by staying on the field so we didn't have to be out there. That was a big part, but we just made plays. We believe we are the best defensive group in the country and we take it upon ourselves to show that week in and week out," stated Tom Merriman after the game.

Antonio Rossner once again led the offense by throwing for 214 yards and 2 scores while adding another score on the ground.

"Not a lot of guys get Heisman hype as a freshman, but this young man definitely deserves every bit of it. As I've said before, he is a special athlete and just by having him out there we have a chance to win every football game even if our defense decides not to show up." said Coach T

Darius Terry is quietly becoming one of the better HB in the country and he added 118 yards and 2 scores of his own while James Davis rushed for 87 yards and a score. The receiving game still hasn't had that one player take the reigns as the go-to player, but the Cowboys continue to have 8+ different guys catch at least one ball per game.

Defensively, Jared Killpack notched his first interception of his career on Saturday. Killpack moved from WR to CB in the offseason due to the need for help at the CB position and the move has worked out nicely.

"Moving Jared has worked out for us. Ever since he was a freshman, he has played on special teams coverage teams and has always been one of our leading tacklers in that department, and with his knowledge of the game and work ethic, moving him was really an easy decision. Now, at times during the game, you can look out and see Jared and his brother Joe in the same defensive secondary. It's just one of those things that doesn't happen much."
