Tide outlast Vols to win by ten
#5 Tennessee (5-1) has a B offense, an A- defense, and is B+ overall. They are #18 in pts/gm, #51 in total offense, and #6 in total defense. We are #1 in pts/gm, #3 in total offense, and #1 in total defense. Weather: Clear.
No scoring in the first half as the defenses shutdown the opposing offenses.
Late in the second quarter QB Josh Smith rolls out. He breaks a tackle by a Vol defender. He then throws back across the middle after rolling to his right and it's picked by UT DE Goins who then proceeds to elude a Bama WR and shoves aside HB Andre Justice on his way to a 98 yard INT return for a TD with :55 left in the half. HUGE PLAY FOR THE VOLS!!! If this happened against most teams, they'd just pack it in. However, this is not most teams. The team quickly drives the length of the field and QB Smith hangs in against heavy pressure to throw an 18 yard TD pass to WR Anthony Morris with :18 left. 7-7 at the half.
No scoring in the third quarter as the defenses constantly forced stops and turnovers.
HB Justice scores on a 7 yard TD run with 2:21 left to put us up 14-7. UT takes the field and after 3 plays, it's 4th down and they go for it. A deflection leads to a turnover on downs. Alabama quickly drives down to the UT 2 yard line, but we're forced back to the 12. K John Smith boots a 29 yard FG with :24 left in the game to seal this one.
This game was all about the Bama defense and key Bama turnovers at bad times. Without these things, Bama wins this game pretty easily as the UT offense did not score in the game.
