2014 Week 5

Arkansas (2-0) has a C+ offense, a B defense, and is B- overall. They are #34 in pts/gm, #16 in total offense, and #32 in total defense. We are #1 in pts/gm, #9 in total offense, and #1 in total defense. Weather: RAIN.

After trying to pin Arkansas deep in their own territory just a little over halfway through the first quarter, an Alabama player is going for the ball so it doesn't go into the endzone. He's shoved from the side and the Arkansas player picks up the ball at the two yard line and outruns everyone 99 yards to the endzone. WHAT?!? You've got to be friggin' kidding me! K Jason Smith boots a 36 yarder to make it 7-3 Hogs.

Ark K Crowder hits a 38 yard FG to push the lead back to 10. On the final drive of the first half, QB Josh Smith gets blasted in the pocket on 3rd and long. He breaks the tackle, rolls out to the right side and recognizes he has a receiver just sitting in the middle of the field with no one around him. He rifles it to him and he actually makes the catch. A few plays later QB Michael Johnson runs it in from 9 yards out, 10-10 at halftime.

No scoring in the third quarter as Arkansas missed a pretty easy FG after a turnover.

QB Johnson throws a 12 yard TD pass to WR Anthony Morris with 3:57 left in the game. 17-10. The Bama defense holds on the next Razorback drive. Then, Bama drives near midfield with around 40 seconds left and go for it on 4th and inches. The HB is stopped after he crosses the line to make, but the ref marks it short and gives it back to Arkansas. The Bama defense gets a pick and that's your game. Whew!

This game was closer than it should have been. The Alabama defense absolutely dominated this game and held Arkansas HB Waller to 47 yards on 13 attempts. We've got to get better because the big boys are coming up.
