Four in a Row

October 27, 2007
RENO, Nev. (AP) - The Nevada Wolfpack (1-7 0-4 WAC) outplayed the Idaho Vandals (5-4 4-1 WAC) in nearly every statistical category. They had 120 more yards than the Vandals in the air, 6 more first downs, 2 less sacks, and less penalties than the Vandals. Unfortunately for the Wolfpack, the Vandals had better stats where it counted: 3rd down conversions, redzone scoring, and of course, score.

"[Nevada] played better than us in many statistical categories. We were lucky to be able to escape with a win. The fact that we got outplayed and still won though just shows these kids' toughness, even through all the adversity in the beginning of the year. We can't expect to be able to win every week if we play like this however," said Coach Ghettoshark.

HB Brian Flowers chalked up his third 100 yard game this season. The Vandals are 3-0 in games where Flowers runs for over 100 yards. Flowers 101 yards on 20 carries and a score, including a 24 yard run. FB Rolly Lumbala also scored on the ground, his 4th rushing TD this season.

Sophomore WR Max Komar was the Vandals' leading receiver with 6 catches for 109 yards. He also reached 1000 receiving yards this season this game.

"I can't say enough about Max Komar. Not only does he put up great receiving numbers, he also does all the little things like blocking on a run play. I can't count how many times he's been downfield clearing the way for a long run or two. He's a complete player," said Ghettoshark.

Although the defense allowed Nevada QB Colin Kaepernick to throw for nearly 330 yards and 26 completions, they stepped up when they need to. Case in point: With just under two minutes in the game, LB Paul Senescall intercepted Kaepernick to seal the win for the Vandals.

The win improves Idaho's record to 5-4 and 4-1 in the Western Athletic Conference. Perhaps more important though, is that the Vandals only have to win one out of their three remaining games to become 'Bowl Eligible'.

It's hard to believe that just a few weeks ago, this Idaho team was 1-4 and coming off a three game losing streak. Now that same team has a winning record, is one game away from playing 13, and is on a four game winning streak.

Idaho seeks it's sixth victory this season next week against Louisiana Tech (3-4 1-3 WAC).
