Once again the UNI Panthers took the lead and never gave it up. Their offense looked very strong scoring touchdowns on the ground and in the air and they were able to use all of their weapons and bring in the backups.
It was the defense that did their job to get one of their own named NCAA Defense Player of the Week. Senior right end, Eric Sampson was named NCAA and SEC Defensive Player of the Week with 12 tackles, 12 for loss, 10 sacks and a forced fumble.
Freshman halfback Steve Jackson was named SEC Offensive Player of the Week for his game stats of 114 rushing yards and four total touchdowns. Three of those touchdowns were rushing and one was a kick return. The other halfback Clayton Matthews also returned a kick for a touhdown and added 60 yards on the ground along with a touchdown.
UNI's record stands at an overall 3-0 and 2-0 in the SEC West Conference.
