All Quiet in Week 3

Sooners or Later, the Tide is Gonna Getcha

#1 Alabama (1-0) comes to Norman, OK with a 107 game winning streak. We are A+ across the board, but I do not know how. We are #1 in pts/gm, #19 in total offense, and #2 in total defense. #18 Oklahoma (0-0) has a B offense, an A+ defense, and is A- overall. I finally decided to schedule the Sooners because they just cannot make it to the Championship game against us. Watch them start showing up there every year now. Weather: Rain.

OU HB Edwards goes right up the middle on a draw play and no one can get him as SS Demarcus Amadi and FS Daniel Mitchell both whiff on their attempted tackles, 7-0 OU.

QB Jesse Russ throws a screen pass to HB Nick Brown and he takes it 19 yards to the house, 7-7. QB Russ options into the endzone himself for a 14 yard TD run, 14-7. On the ensuing kickoff, the OU return man first decided not to field the kickoff and then he moved over to take it and went out of bounds at almost their 8 yard line. On first down we brought both LBs to stop their draw plays. The OU QB stepped into the endzone and before he could do anything ROLB Pete Coley was there to bring him down for a safety, 16-7 Bama. We would go to halftime with that score. We left at least a total of 9 points on the field in the first half. Our kicker missed two makeable FGs and our QB threw a pick into the endzone as our offensive line was not blocking well.

On our opening drive of the second half, we come up on a 4th down and inches situation at our 29 and I decide to go for it. HB Nick Brown who's determined not to be stopped because he is in the zone gets the ball against an OU goalline defense. He breaks a tackle and then outraces the rest of the Sooners for a 71 yard TD run. We go for two and QB Russ throws to TE Christian Wheeler for the conversion, 24-7 Tide. HB Jonas Barnes blasts by the OU defense on his way to a 25 yard TD run, 31-7.

K Tim Ford hits a 31 yard FG to go 1 for 3 on tday, 34-7. QB Joe Carter options his way into the endzone from 9 yards out to finish the scoring, 41-7.

I was pleased with our running game at times. Our WRs kept dropping passes. QB Jesse Russ is still throwing picks at bad times. Our kicking game was pretty atrocious. If OU had been up for this game, our kicker might have cost us this game. However, we survive and return to SEC action next.
