Second Half Comeback Propels Tide over Cats

Kentucky narrowly avoided a 5 way tie by beating Tennessee 39-29 to make the SEC Championship. Kentucky (7-4) is B across the board. They are #16 in pts/gm, #52 in total offense, and #62 in total defense. #1 Alabama (12-0) is A+ across the board. We are #1 in everything except pass offense (74th).

We held the Wildcats to a punt, but on our first position HB Jonas Barnes fumbles. Kentucky then drives down the field converting a key 3rd down.

They go option on the second play of the 2nd quarter and UK HB Ball goes in from 8 yards out, 7-0 UK. We drive the length of the field, but near the endzone we are picked off. Kentucky then drives into our territory, but we hold them to a 4th down at our 30. They go for it and get it. A few plays later they go option and UK HB Ball takes it in again to make it 14-0 Wildcats. We once again drive the length of the field before throwing yet another INT. The wildcats run out the first half clock and we go into the lockers down two TDs at the half.

We go on a consistent drive to start the second half and 1:15 into the half QB JEsse Russ finally gets off the snide and hits WR Eddie Simmons on a 23 yard TD pass, 14-7 UK. Our defense absolutely dominates the Wildcats and almost forces a safety before they have to punt. PR Marco Herring returns the punt to the 10 and HB Barnes scores three plays later on a 1 yard TD run, 14-14. Our defense holds them again and HB Barnes breaks free after spinning by a Wildcat safety on his way to a 54 yard TD run, 21-14 Bama. The UK QB continues to scramble against our zone defense and we make him pay as FS Chase Jackson knocks his block off causing a fumble that we recover. QB Russ hits WR Gerald Davis on a 15 yard TD pass, 28-14.

HB Chris Morris spins by a defender and goes in from 14 yards, 35-14. We're about to score at the end of the game, but our offense line let an impact MLB threw who sacks our backup QB who fumbles and a big ole DT picks it up and rumbles 92 yards for the score as time expires, 35-21.

We were very flat in the first half. We finally got things going and stopped the turnovers until the end of the game. This puts us in the National Championship game again.
