Terps Stun Trojans in LA
Two first quarter interceptions both lead to Maryland touchdowns in a defensive minded game. It didn't start that way, as USC's first play from scrimmage went for a 56 yard touchdown.
Junior Derrick Leslie extended Maryland's lead to 21-12 late in the third quarter on a 76 yard run. USC responded with a touchdown of their own to pull back within 2 at 21-19. Neither defense stuttered in the 4th quarter and a Terrapin fumble recovery at midfield with under 2 minutes to play sealed up the victory.
The win propelled Maryland to the #1 in the polls. It is Maryland's first #1 ranking since the 1950's.
The road doesn't get any easier for either team in week 2. USC will travel to Columbus for a rematch of last year's National Title Game with the 2-time defending National Champion and #3 ranked Ohio State Buckeyes. Maryland stays on the road and heads to Morgantown for a game with bitter rival #13 West Virginia.
