2010 Week 7

On the off chance that someone is actually reading this, I'm going to step out of character if you will. You see, I just finished a 'no-fucking-way' game. As you probably know, a 'no-fucking-way' game is when the computer decides that you are not going to win the game. Defenders start floating to ball at the absolute last second from 5 yards away, gain the ability to jump 8 feet in the air from a standing position, and offensive players start breaking up to 6 tackles on one play. Well I know what plays will go for TDs the majority of the time, so I started using those plays. Hence the insane 4th quarter. But there was no way in hell I was losing to Kentucky, cheese or no cheese. What I got was one hell of an exciting 4th quarter, in the middle of which I spiked my controller with the intention of breaking it. It miraculously survived without a scratch, so I knew I had to keep trying to beat that fucking cheating computer. And I did. Yay. Pardon my french.

OK, back into dynasty mode....

COLLEGE PARK, MD - Maryland out-shot Kentucky in a crazy 4th quarter to come away with an improbable 46-45 win. Maryland's Derrick Leslie and Kentucky's Allen both set new school single game rushing records. It was Leslie's 73 yard scamper with 18 seconds left in the game that gave Maryland their first lead and the win, 46-45.

Kentucky looked to have the game salted away after a 98-yard kickoff return put them up 16 (42-26) with 3:43 remaining just after a Maryland touchdown. But Leslie would not be stopped and Tony Logan added a punt return for a touchdown in relief of injured Ronnie Tyler. A failed 2-point conversion left the Wildcats up by 2 (42-40) with 1:10 left to play. The onside kick was not only recovered by Kentucky, but it was returned inside the Maryland 10. Three great stands by the d-line and three timeouts later and UK went up by 5 via field goal, 45-40. Cue Derrick Leslie.

It's not often a team that is down by 5 with no timeouts and less than 30 seconds to play will hand the ball off. Maryland did. The stunned Kentucky defense watched Leslie nearly burn a path in the grass as he went untouched for the game-winning touchdown.

Maryland has a much needed bye week coming up with a game at home against Florida State to follow.

NCAA NOTES: Something was in the air in Week 7. Not only did we see Maryland come back from 16 down with under 4 minutes to play, but #20 Penn State beat #3 Michigan 43-40 in the Big House after trailing 34-7 midway through the 3rd quarter. #24 LSU outscored #2 Florida 17-0 in the 2nd half to beat the Gators 24-17 in The Swamp. Capping off the road team shockers, #9 Arkansas went on the road and crushed #13 Auburn, 38-7.
