Very similar to last years historic number one greatest game of all time, this years game was just as exciting. Utah State struck first with a 6 yard touchdown pass from McCormick to Russel. Shortly after BYU put together a quick drive of its own to tie the game. After a long 43 yard field goal by the Aggies, Hafoka, of the Cougars, broke away for a record breaking 100 yard kickoff return for a touchdown. And at the end of the first quarter BYU lead 13-10.

The second quarter proved to be dominated by the Aggies as they scored 17 including the Pontiac Game Changing Performance interception return for a touchdown by Charles. The only upside the Cougars had going into the half was a record breaking 94 yard touchdown pass.

USU came out firing on all cylinders to start the third period when they had a very quick scoring drive capped off by a 2 yard run by fullback Bohm. However on the ensuing kickoff another record was broken by Hafoka when he went 101 yards for another kickoff return for a touchdown. Utah State put together two more scoring drives in the quarter while BYU added another of their own to make the score 48-34 after the third.

Trailing by 14 going into the fourth quarter BYU put together two nice touchdown drives but an early field goal in the fourth by the Aggies proved to be the deciding factor in the game.

After the game Coach McGriffLe had this to say, "This is exactly the way we needed to start off the season. It doesn't get any better than this. Winning a road game against a rival to open up the season. Our freshman really stepped up. I told them if they came to Utah State they would have a chance to show the country what they can do and thats exactly what they did here today."
