Hokies handle Tigers in Death Valley

With over 92,400 screaming fans packing Tiger Stadium, nearly no one gave the 1-0 Virginia Tech Hokies a chance.

Except for one persistent head coach.

"I told the players that they could win this game if they were at the top of their game," Hokies' head coach Justin Jett said. "Obviously, we were."

Tech's stinging defense picked off LSU quarterback Matt Flynn four times in the 30-3 rout, with four different players catching the ball in the secondary. They added a fumble recovery to bring the LSU turnover total to five.

The Hokies were able to capitalize on four of those turnovers, putting two touchdowns and two field goals on the scoreboard.

"You can't win games if you're turning the ball over four times. It just isn't possible," LSU coach Les Miles said.

Both of the Hokies quarterbacks saw playing time, with Sean Glennon leading the way with two touchdowns. Freshman Tyrod Taylor added 127 yards through the air to give the Hokies a serious two-quarterback threat.

Taylor left the game early with a dislocated finger on his non-throwing hand.

"It's nice knowing that there is a great quarterback backing me up," Taylor said. "Sean played great today."
