Hokies unseat FSU

Every time former Virginia Tech head coach Frank Beamer coached against Bobby Bowden, Bowden came out as the superior.

Hokies new head coach Justin Jett has quickly changed that legacy, defeating the struggling Florida State Seminoles 35-24. Jett played down the feat in the post game conference.

"Frank was a great ball coach. He taught me everything I know," Jett said. "The team just came out and played today. Maybe it was because of the national title implications, I don't know."

For seemingly the first time this season, the Tech offense was bogged down, gaining a mere 361 yards as compared to FSU's 301. But Jett didn't let this change affect his gameplan.

"I still called the game the same way," Jett said. "[FSU] was just the first time to kind of contain this offense."

Hokies freshman quarterback Tyrod Taylor accounted for all of Tech's offensive touchdowns, throwing three and gaining one on the ground.

Heading into the second half, Virginia Tech was trailing by two scores, 24-14. But, they were able to regain the lead off of an early fourth quarter touchdown throw by Taylor.

"I saw that Eddie [Royal] had a step on his man and I tossed it," Taylor said. "Just pitch and catch."

As for the national title, Jett still refuses to talk about, although he has acknowledged the potential berth.

"Of course it feels great to have a chance to possibly play for the national title, but it feels so much better that the team is performing so well," Jett said.
