Gutsy Win - WVU upsets #7 Auburn
Tyler Bitancurt kicked three field goals and Jarrett Brown threw for three touchdowns as West Virginia upset #7 Auburn on the road Saturday night. Bitancurt the red-shirt freshman, replacing long-time kicker Pat MaCafee, kicked field goals of 26,37, and 52 on the night, the later, certainly a career long. However, his night was not without troubles as he missed one of his PATs.
The Mountaineer defense was led by Senior Franchot "Boogie" Allen. The safety picked off two passes included a nifty interception at his own three yard line with just seconds to go before half. Allen then returned the pick 97 yards for a touchdown thus deflating the Tigers and their rabid crowd.
Halfback Noel Devine suffered a lower leg injury in the second quarter and did not return to action. As a result, the Eers were held to just 65 yards rushing on the day.
With the win, West Virginia evens it's season record to 1-1. The Tigers fell to 1-1. WVU returns to Mountaineer Field next Saturday to face Bowling Green out of the MAC.
