WVU routed former Big East mates Miami in the Gator Bowl 42-14.
Offensive Explosion! - WVU routs #17 Cincy

West Virginia' offense exploded for 45 points on Saturday in route to a 51-10 route of the #17 Cincinnati Bearcats. Not to be outdone, the Mountaineer defense even got in on the scoring as Brandon Hogan returned a fumble 75 yards for a touchdown. In the end, it was a domintating performance on both sides of the ball. The offense exploded for 420 yards of offense, finished 9-15 on third down and converted all four attempts in red zone into points. The defense meanwhile limited UC to 153 yards of total offense and forced three turnovers.
Halfback Noel Devine rushed for 154 yards and two scores and Jarret Brown added two more through the air as the Mountaineers picked up their eighth win of the season.
The Eers were led defensively by corner Guesly Dervil's 5 stops on the day. The senior also had one of WVU's two pics on the day.
WVU returns to action next Sunday night in the annual Friends of Coal Bowl against Marshall.
In-State Domination - WVU blows out Herd

West Virginia continued it's domination of in-state rival Marshall with a resounding 35-10 win Sunday night in Huntington. WVU still has not lost to Marshall in football.
Noel Devine had 186 yards of total offense and Jarret Brown threw three touchdown passes as the Mountaineers racked up 368 yards of total offense.
Meanwhile, the Mountaineer defense was equally as strong, limiting the Herd to just 149 yards of total offense in forcing one turnover and five punts. Thorpe award finalist Boogie Allen once again led the way from his Safety position. Allen accounted for six tackles and one sack.
WVU concludes the regular season at 9-3 in coach Bill Stewart's second year at the helm. The Mounaineers appear headed to either the Gator Bowl against an ACC opponent or to possibly Charlotte in the Meinekie Car Car Bowl, also against an ACC opponent.
Classic Brawl doesn't go Eers way

Pitt Kicker K Harper kicked 4 field goals and LeShean McCoy returned the opening kickoff of the second half for a touchdown as the Panthers downed homestanding West Virginia 26-21 Saturday in the annual Backyard Brawl.
WVU was led by Noel Devine, who rushed for 85 yards and two touchdowns. Wideout Alric Arnett added 8 catches for 135 yards for the Eers as well.
Defensively the Mountaineers were led by safties Robert Sands (9 tackles) and Quinton Andrews (8 tackles).
West Virginia has now lost three straight in this annual heated rivalry. The Mountaineers conclude the '09 Big East slate next week on the road against the Bearcats of Cincinnati.
Big plays ignite WVU past UConn

West Virginia used big plays to overcome a 10-7 first quarter defecit to route UConn 34-10 Saturday in Morgantown. Quarterback Jarrett Brown threw for 299 yards and four touchdowns in leading WVU to it's second straight Big East win. Brown finished 18 of 22 on the day, while throwing one interception.
The Mountaineer defense was stout all game long in limiting the Huskies to just 141 yards of total offense. Defensive end Larry Ford led the way for WVU with 8 tackles. UConn's offensive troubles were especially evident on third down as they finished a woeful 1-11.
West Virginia will now host #10 Pitt in the annual Backyard Brawl. The Panthers have won two straight in the series, so WVU will be looking for revenge.
