Hard Fought Win - Eers overcome challenge from improved Orange
West Virginia used a smothering defense and an opportunistic offense to defeat Syracuse 21-10 on Saturday. The Mountaineers held the Orange to -5 yards on the ground and forced two interceptions in getting their second road win in a row.
Noel Devine ran for 114 yards and added 40 yards and a touchdown receiving to lead the way for the offense. Quarterback Jarrett Brown had a so-so day, finishing 13 of 25 for 144 yards, one TD and 2 interceptions.
Once again, the Mountaineers were led defensively by safety Boogie Allen who had 10 stops on the day including two for loss. Senior LB Ovid Golbourne recorded 2 sacks and 5 stops overall.
WVU returns to action next week against USF. Once again, the Eers will be on the road as part of their current 3 game road swing.
