BYU Dominated in Rivalry Game

Wyoming forced a school record 9 turnovers and returned 2 for touchdowns en route to a 73-0 shutout victory over their hated rivals from BYU.

Tom Merriman led the defense with three interceptions on the day, taking one 90 yards to the house just as BYU was trying to cut the lead to 7. After that, there was little to cheer for if you were a Cougars fan.

Starting QB Leroy Williams only attempted 7 passes on the day but he connected on all 7 of them and three were for touchdowns. On the ground, the Cowboys had two rush for over 100 yards. Ryan Williams finished with 161 yards and a TD and James Davis added 106 yards and one score. The Pokes offense totaled 520 yards of offense with a season high 331 of those yards coming on the ground. Freshman phenom Elliot Banks again led the Cowboys in receiving totaling 94 yards and two more touchdowns. The TE corps for Wyoming is one of the best in the nation and Coach T knows just that.

"We do have some great guys there at the tight end position, and these aren't just big guys. These guys are good athletes. They can make people miss in the open field or can run over smaller guys as well as do their job blocking. I would say the three men we have rotating in could easily play for just about any team in the country. We will miss Jessen next year, but Banks and Rivera will both be back, and we have moved Taylor to TE after signing him last year as a FB. All this doesn't even take into account the possibility of us picking up a big prospect or two. I'd say that is one position we really don't have to worry about."
