2007 Week 13

The tigers just locked up a trick to the ACC championship game last week and all that was left were the cross state rivals the USC Gamecocks. The gamecock having started out slow have won 5 straight including wins over florida, auburn, and last week a huge upset win vs #1 Texas in a hottly contested non conference game. The cocks won 33-28 on a big touchdown pass to sidney rice. The gamecocks record on the year was 9-2(same as the tigers). Considering both teams are in the top 25 and both have offenses in the top 10 in the country, neither team could get a drive going the entire first half. The tigers were determined to make the game grind out and the gamecocks were thinking of blow out. At the half it was 7-0tigers. But in the 3rd quarter the gamecocks looked like they would get there first win in the series since 2001 by scoring 2 touchdowns and 2 fieldgoals. To make matters worse for the tigers star runningback james davis was taken out with a strained groin. So star runningback and seldom used demerick chancellor continued on james pase racking up close to 100 rushing yards just in the 4th Q alone. Both spiller and chancellor had big 1 yard hbdives for touch downs to make the lead 21-20 tigers with 2 minutes remaining. Blake Mitchel who was having a career day before the 4th Q end up throwing a pick on the first play of the gamecocks final drive to seal the win for the tigers. Next up Gt ACC championship game
