VT gets revenge
The Virginia Tech Hokies were chugging along the course of the season with a 6-2 record and a coming off a 49-7 win vs. UL Monroe. Virginia Tech was highly motivated to beat the tigers because of the embarrassing loss to the Tigers in the 2006 conference championship game which featured the hokies getting shut out 40-0. The game started heavily in favore to the tigers as they jumped out to a 28-14 lead by the half. Everything seemed to click with touchdown passes of 19,28, and a 52 yard hailmerry to end the half. By the begining of the 4th quarter the hokies had already tied the game with two long solid drives down the tigers throught.
What would ensue is the meltdown of the tigers season a nixes any oppurtunity to get into the national championship race. The tigers drove down field to the 10 yard line. True freshmen showed his inexperience, and on a roleout play designed for the qb to throw to the open fb or te, or to run. Well it seems he didn't know what to do. He seemed to realize he could throw the ball and started running for extra yards, but right before he reached the line of scrimmage he saw somebody open and release a featherly spiral. Well that was interecepted by the MLB. The hokies then connected on a long pass to take the go ahead lead. There was only 3 minutes left in the 4th and the tigers got the ball back. They drove all the way back down to the 35 after having gone for it on 2 fourth down played. But qb Matt Harris once again mis understood what coverage VT cornerback was in and threw a pick that was returned for touchdown. With only 25 seconds left, the tigers just kneeled the ball to get out of there.
