Seminoles emberass Clemson in Death Valley
Jameis Winston threw for 320 yards and 4 touchdowns, rushed 68 more and another score on the ground, and Florida State beat the Clemson Tigers 47-28 in Death Valley.
After a 52-yard Levonte Whitfield kickoff return, Winston found Rashad Greene in the end zone for a 30 yard score. Clemson punted on their first drive, which Florida State turned into a 44-yard Winston scramble followed by a 33 yard pass to Kenny Shaw to quickly put it at 14-0.
On Clemson's first play of their next drive, Terrance Brooks recovered a fumble forced by the defense to the end zone to make it 21-0. Clemson would score on their next drive, but from there on it was all Florida State.
Winston was intercepted 3 times on the day, once from a tipped pass in the first quarter and twice from miscues with his receivers.
Tajh Boyd threw for 386 yards and 4 touchdowns to try to keep the Tigers in the game, but they were always playing from behind. His interception by Lamarcus Joyner in the end zone in the first quarter allowed the Seminoles to keep the lead early on.
The Nole's defense held the Tigers to just 43 rushing yards, Clemson's fewest of the year. With the run game abandoned early on, Boyd turned to his receivers and both Martavis Bryant and Sammy Watkins had over 100 yards receiving.
In the end, the Seminoles were able to control the clock thanks to their trio of running backs, who combined for 177 yards on the ground. Florida State was able to get pressure on Boyd throughout the game, but only accounted for one sack on the day. However, the pressure was certainly felt as Boyd constantly overthrew his receivers or threw the ball away when the defense was in his face.
The Seminoles move to 6-0 on the season and 4-0 in the ACC, while the Tigers fall to 5-2 on the year. With this win, Florida State gains sole possession of first place in the ACC Atlantic Divison.
