NSU Starts Strong, Fades Late

Season Report Posted: February 14, 2021 05:36

Nebraska State started out 10-0 and reached the #1 spot in the polls, but an upset at Ab-Linc to Minnesota sent the Prairie Dogs reeling. The Gophers would win its final two games to clinch the West Division and keep NSU out of the Big 10 title game. NSU would need a two-point conversion in overtime to knock off 1-10 Wisconsin State in the finale before falling to 7-5 Arkansas in the Capital One Bowl. The season ended at 11-2 after a promising start.

Four different Big 10 teams held the top spot during the season. Defending champion Ohio State, Penn State, Michigan and NSU all held the top ranking during the season. Michigan would be the Top Ranked team until falling to Ohio State and denying the Wolverines a trip to the Big 10 title game. Overall, six different teams held the Number One ranking with LSU grabbing it after winning the National Title of the previous holder, Oklahoma.
