A Win Is A Win
In a game where offense was at a premium, the Wake Forest Demon Deacons won their first game under the new regime of Coach DeLoye. "What a game eh?" said DeLoye. When asked about the game plan for today's game coach replied with, "Well I wasn't satisfied with the way we ran the ball last week against Syracuse so I decided we'd be running the ball about 75% of the time this week. Micah [Andrews] is a great back with decent speed and a great ability to break tackles and he must be utilized more in our offensive attack." And the impact halfback did just that. He ran for 98 yards in the win. But it was the big play of wideout Willie Idlette that saved the game for the Deacons. With time expiring at the half, [Ben] Mauk excuted a perfect play-action and saw Willie streaking up the right side line. Willie caught the ball at the 50 and broke not 1, not 2, but 3 tackles before taking it to the house as time expired. The defense would hold the blue devils to 0 points in the second half to preserve a 13-6 win.
Next week the Deacons travel to UConn(1-0) who beat Div 1-AA oppenent Rhode Island 70-7 in week 1.
