All Quiet in Week 7

It's All Down Hill From Here

For the first time in 2006, the Wake Forest Demon Deacons are on a 2 game losing streak. "Our total yards per game was a big fear coming into this game against the stellar defense of NC State. And it became apparent right from the get-go that it was going to be a problem. We threw like J.P. Losman has his whole career and everytime we ran we were stopped dead in our tracks. Like Pacman Jones running from a strip club."

Despite all this, the game turned out to be a great game. The 3rd best of all time with a 998 greatest game score rating. NC State scored a go ahead touchdown with 48 seconds left to go up 17-13. Wake got the ball with plenty of time and all 3 timeouts. But they would go 4 and out at the 28 yard line. However, using all three timeouts, Wake was able to hold NC State to a FG with 10 seconds left. Wake got the ball at the 20 as the result of a touchback so all 10 seconds still remained. [Ben] Mauk threw a bomb to a streaking [Kenneth] Moore. The pass was caught and Moore quickly jumped out of bounds with 1 second left. "Although our fan base certainly doesn't think that going OB was the right decesion, I feel it was right because the defender was right on his heels and would have most likely caught, tackled him, and ended the game. This way we still had a shot." So there was time for one more play, but the pass was batted down in the end zone and the game was over.

Wake Forest(4-3) needs two more wins to become bowl eligible. Looking at the schedule, this feat seems very unlikely. The combined record of the opponents of the next 5 games is 25-10. These teams include: A very rare 5-2 North Carolina team. A tough Florida State team who flirts with the top 25 every week. Boston College. Who is ranked 27 in the polls at the moment. A #12 ranked, defensive powerhouse, Virgina Tech team. And last but not least is Maryland. By far the easiest game to win of the group but still a 4-3 team.
