A Long Road Ahead....

Needless to say the season started out pretty much the way coach DeLoye thought it would. With a loss. "I knew we were gonna come out a little rusty. New playbook, new coach, and an all around new atomosphere has to make things difficult for our boys to get used to" said Coach. And that it most certainly was. With only 45 total offensive yards at the half and being down 17-0, the Deacons looked like a shutout was pretty much going to happen. The third quarter was no different turning out to be 31-0 at the end of 3. But in the 4th quarter the deacons showed a little sign of hope. "When Josh [Gattis] got us that fumble at the 6 yard line and ran it back for a score I was really impressed." That was just enough to jump start the Wake offense for another FG and a touchdown in hail mary fashion before the end of the game. But in true jackass fashion, Syracuse kicked a FG with 4 seconds left to make it a 34-17 final. On seeing the FG at the end of the game instead of a knee Coach DeLoye had this to say: "It was a bold move and totally uneccessary. We will play these guys again next year and we'll be sure to run the score up on them."

Next week the Deacons are at home against Duke(1-0) who beat Div 1-AA Richmond 49-14 in week one.
