Penalties Doom Mountaineers

West Virginia knew it had to play a solid game in order to beat #22 Cincinnati Saturday, and for the most part they did. Except in penalties, where the Mountaineers commited 13. The penalties simply stalled all offensive drives and served as momentum killers as West Virginia only made one trip inside the red zone all day. Add to that the brilliant punting by Cincinatti who averaged over 50 yards per punt to consistantly pin WVU deep in it's own territory.

Offensively the Mountaineers were led by Pat White's passing. White finished 14 of 24 for 142 yards a touchdown. The Mountaineer rushing attacked was somewhat effective as Jock Sanders and Mark Rodgers combined for 177 yards, with Rodgers scoring on a 52 yard run near the end of the First Quarter.

Senior Linebacker Morty Ivy led the Mountaineer defense with 5 stops including a sack.

WVU returns to action Saturday November 22nd at Big East rival Louisville.
