Not Pretty
West Virginia overcame 10 penalties and an otherwise sluggish performance to beat Syracuse on Saturday 20-14. WVU racked up over 450 yards of offense and held a nearly 2 to 1 margin in time of possession but simply was unable to score many points. Noel Devine led the Mountaineers with 209 yards on the ground but didn't score.
Quarterback Pat White added 240 yards through the air and accounted for West Virginia's only two touchdowns. White's primary targets on Saturday included TE Will Johnson and Slot Back Jock Sanders who both recorded seven receptions.
The Mountaineer defense was much more effective on Saturday, holding the Orange to just 208 yards of total offense. Once again the Eers were led by Senior Morty Ivy's 7 tackles and 1 sack effort.
West Virginia returns to action Thursday October 23rd against the Auburn Tigers. The game will be ESPN's featured Thursday night primetime game.
