One Sided Rivalry (Again)
Once again, the Friends of Coal Bowl proved to be Unfriendly to Marshall University. Pat White threw for 3 Touchdowns and Noel Devine ran for two more as West Virginia dominated their neighbor to the south 42-10.
Marshall Quarterback Mark Cann had nice game, throwing for 178 yards and a touchdown on 14 of 23 passing. But it simply wasn't enough to overcome the WVU offense. Dorrell Jalloh hauled in two of White's touchdown passes on the day. One of them a brilliant 46 yard catch and run with Jalloh breaking the tackle of two Herd Defenders.
The West Virginia defense played well, holding the Herd ground game to just 84 yards rushing and providing constant pressure on Cann throughout the game. Franchot "Boogie" Allen led the Eers with 4 stops including one for loss.
West Virginia opens up Big East play next week at home against Rutgers (3-1). The game will be televised nationally by ESPN2.
