Pat McAfee kicked a 25 yard FG with 1:41 left to give West Virginia a hard fought 16-14 victory over Rutgers on Saturday night. Noel Devine rushed for 207 yards on a whopping 27 carries to lead an otherwise lackluster offensive effort. Quarterback Pat White had a forgetful night finishing just 10 of 22 and a paltry 45 yards passing. He did however find Alric Arnett for one score near the end of the first quarter.
West Virginia struggled mightily in the red zone. Converting only one out of four trips inside the twenty into a touchdown. McAfee finished 3-3 on FGs including the game winner. Defensively WVU was led by Scooter Berry's 2 sacks of Rutgers QB Mike Teel. Berry also finished with seven stops including two others behind the line.
The Mountaineers move to 1-0 in the Big East and are now 3-2 overall. They return to action next week against rival Syracuse. Kickoff is set for 7:45. The game will be televised by ESPNU.
