Dominated! Eers Handed First Loss 41-7
In 2006, West Virginia was fortunate to escape Greenville North Carolina with a win after being dominated most of the game by the Pirates. In 2008, they weren't so lucky. Riding the passing of Patrick Pickney, East Carolina jumped out to 41-0 lead in upseting the #7 Mountaineers 41-7. Pickney completed 15 of his 21 passes for 249 yards and 4 touchdowns.
West Virginia simply had no answer for Pickney nor their own anemic offensive effort. The Eers finished with just 127 yards on the ground and 128 through the air. West Virginia also commited 4 costly turnovers that diminished any hope they had of stopping the Pirates.
The Mountaineers' lone bright spot on Offense was the play of WR Alric Arnett who finished with 99 yards receiving on 7 catches. Morty Ivy led the Defense with 12 tackles and also nothched two sacks. But it was not nearly enough as Pickney too often found wide open receivers nearly all day.
The Pirates improve to 1-1 and the Mountaineers fell to 1-1 on the young season. West Virginia will take next week off as they prepare for a Thursday Night, September the 18th affair at Colorado. The game will air Nationally on ESPN.
