IT WAS A DONE DEAL WHEN
Freshman DE Brian Williams recorded the sack on Penn's final drive. They were almost in FG range to tie the game (and the way they were moving the ball up to that point, they may well have driven for the TD and the lead), and he slammed the door shut on them. That put them in a tough down-and-distance, and threw their whole drive out of whack. They eventually turned it over on downs two plays later.

GAME BALLS
Brian Williams, of course, made the huge sack. He also recovered a fumble. ... HB Michael Clarke ran for 169 yards and a score on only 20 carries. ... Backup HB Demetrius Gadson rebounded from the Navy loss (where he fumbled the final punt return, handing them the miracle victory). He ran for a 38 yard TD on his only carry. He broke multiple tackles and didn't fumble on any of his returns.

KEY STATISTICS
Their offense had more first downs and fewer turnovers than our offense. But our defense stood strong at the end when Penn was making their comeback bid. We recorded two sacks on the final drive, one by DE Donald Faga and the other by DE Williams. ... Penn was able to keep the game close thanks to their passing defense which allowed only 38 passing yards and intercepted us twice.

NOTES
RB Michael Clarke's 169 yards were good for his second consecutive game (along with last week's Navy game) that cracked our top 5 single game rushing performances. ... Freshman TE Curtis Stanley caught his 4th TD of the season. Only six games into the season, and he's already tied for the 2nd best season in our record book for TD catches in a year. If he catches 3 more TD's this year, he'll be atop the list for the most receiving TDs in a single season for me. ... With 13 interceptions in only four games, QB Tony Williams is on pace to challenge D.J. McPhearson's record of 33 interceptions thrown in a single season. This despite Williams not even playing the first two weeks.
