Spartans Win After Exciting Three Overtime Game
San Jose State hosted the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs Saturday as both teams played a thrilling contest with the Spartans coming out on top by a score of 59-56 after three overtimes.
Quarterback Bryan Holland had one of the best games of his career throwing for 487 yards and five touchdowns. "Bryan has really come on strong this season, he is the main reason we continue to rack up victories," Coach Williams said, "Though he is throwing a high number of interceptions still, he is able to lead our football team down the field and get points. That was something we were lacking early on in our zero for three start. I am excited to see how much more he can improve over the remainder of the season."
Louisiana Tech led this game 21-7 early before falling down 42-28 in the third. The Bulldogs would then score the games final two touchdowns to force an overtime. On the very first play for the Bulldogs they used a trick play as halfback Lawrence Lawson threw a 25 yard touchdown pass. The Spartans would answer back when Trey Dorsey ran it into the endzone from 2 yards out.
In the second overtime the Spartans got the ball first and score on a 12 yard pass from quarterback Bryan Holland to wide receiver Lawrence Parquet. The Bulldogs of Louisiana Tech would answer right back when they scored on a 13 yard pass to James Brown.
The Third overtime saw the Bulldogs start with the football and on their very first play from scrimmage halfback Lawrence Lawson coughed up the football and the Spartans recovered. San Jose then took it down the field to get kicker Drew Ramsey in easy range and he kicked a 23 yard field goal to give the Spartans the win.
This game was just another example at how exciting some WAC games can be. It also extended San Jose State's winning streak to six on the year and kept them undefeated in league play.
