2012 Week 4

Coach Jason Williams and his San Jose State Spartans got their first victory of the season Saturday as they defeated the Cincinnati Bearcats by a score of 24-7.

"We felt we were the better football team out on the field today and the scoreboard showed it," Coach Williams said following the game, "We are still turning the football over far to much for my liking but I am happy with a win. I hope many more follow suit, however tomorrow morning I will be sitting with Graham showing him some things he missed on the field. I just hope the San Jose State fans realize this is going to be a process, we wont be National Contenders overnight, we will be one day, but not overnight."

Halfback Jason Harris led the way for the Spartans rushing for 106 yards on 27 attempts. "I have to give all of the props to my offensive line," Harris said, "They open up the holes for me to get my yardage. When our passing game is struggling it's key that I am able to get 100+ yards every game. I think that was a key factor in out victory today."

In reality though the Bearcats are just a bad football team. They lack team speed, they are very young and they have no true leader. They have some solid players on defense but they tend to wear out as the football game goes on due to their offensive being unable to pick up first downs. Saturday was a key example as they only had a total of four first downs throughout the entire football game, an average of just one a quarter. That stat will lose you 95% of ballgames.

Next week the Spartans will open up the WAC season as they travel to take on the Nevada Wolfpack.
